How I became a...
___________________________________________

Well, I’m me. That pretty much says it all.

Becoming a book reviewer was one of those things that just fell in my lap, kind of like how I ended up fitting and selling men kilts at Scottish Festivals. Pretty much I just showed up and started working. I've enjoyed doing both ever since.

My taste in books:

Favorite authors:

I will read anything. I may not finish the book, but I will give it a chance. I tend to develop favorite books – books which allow me to get lost in their setting and fall in love with the characters. I will read those books again and again. Others I read once and pass on to friends.

I have no favorite authors, only favorite books. Some authors have more than one book I like, but I’ve never encountered a complete set of books by any author that I liked. For instance, I cherish Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander and The Fiery Cross as the best of reads, but you could not pay me enough to read the other books in that series again. Eh, call me fickle.

What makes a book a keeper?

What makes me throw a book at the wall?

The things I value most in a book are a well turned phrase and an interesting plot that does not give out on me before the book is over. True to life fascinating characters and sense of the bizarre also put books in my "keep" pile.

I don’t like it when there is no attention to continuity within the book. But the biggest story killer? Lack of imagination and creativity. If I’ve read it before, I don’t want to read it again. Give me something new and exciting, or at least make me feel like it is new and exciting.

My favorite genre and why?

My least favorite genre and why?

I don’t have a favorite genre, though after spending many, many days attending Renaissance Faires, I tend to gravitate toward fantasy based fiction. I also devour non-fiction at an amazing rate.

I’m not into gore, really not into it in any genre. I think a talented author can make an incredibly disturbing scene without needing it. Leave the gore for the movies.

My bathroom library:

My to be read list:

My private library contains many books written by "Anonymous" and a few by Dr. Seuss.

I want to read everything.

My favorite links:

My favorite reading snack:

I don’t snack when I read, though I like a nice glass of port sometimes.
